A few days ago, I was searching for articles on enlarged prostate or BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia). I found a few articles & videos by Whole Food Plant-Based doctors.

(2013) Treating an Enlarged Prostate With Diet by Dr Greger.

(2002) Prostrate Trouble from Your Food by Dr John McDougall.

(2010) Prostate Trouble: Steps to Improving the Flow by Dr John McDougall. He mentions,

"Estimates are that 50 percent of men by 50 years of age, 60 percent by age 60, and as high as 80 percent by age 70 have clinically significant prostate hyperplasia. By age 80 nearly one man in four has undergone some type of surgery to relieve symptoms."

Dr McDougall also says:

"My experience with men having BPH has been mixed. I have seen some men improve their urination after changing to the McDougall diet, but I have also seen men with BPH, especially once it has advanced, fail to respond to the low-fat, high-fiber, male hormone-correcting McDougall diet. These men have sometimes required further help."

(2022) Natural Dietary Treatments for Enlarged Prostate BPH

(5 mins) Transcript. Dr Greger's summary: "Cranberries and pumpkin seeds are put to the test for benign prostatic hypertrophy."

In this video, Dr Greger mentions that

More than 50 percent of men in their 50s and 70 percent or more of men in their 60s suffer from benign prostatic hypertrophy or BPH.

Further, he mentions that 'saw palmetto' doesn't work but there's research on cranberries, flax seeds and pumpkin seeds. In fact, EMA (European Medical Agency, the European equivalent of FDA in USA) supports pumpkin seeds for mild to moderate BPH: see this report (PDF).
(2012) Some Prostates Are Larger Than Others

(3 mins) Transcript. Excerpt:

It's so common in the Western world that most doctors just assume it's just an inevitable consequence of aging. But let's look around the world. In China, a medical college in Beijing reported that there was not 80% of the population affected, but about 80 cases, period. 84 cases over a 15-year timespan. It used to be considered a rare occurrence in China, but the incidence of both BPH and prostate cancer started "rising quickly", and now, the incidence of prostate enlargement in China is similar to that in developed countries.

Why? Well, the researchers suggest it's for the same reason for their skyrocketing cancer rates — a shift from their more traditional plant-based diet to one with more animal fat and animal protein. So, BPH may be like heart disease — a natural occurrence not of aging, but of eating an unhealthy diet. It may only be standard to get an enlarged prostate and die of a heart attack for those eating the Standard American Diet.

(2012) Prostate vs Plants

(3 mins) Transcript. This video summarizes factors believed to prevent or promote BPH, based on observational studies.

A 16-min presentation summarizing the low incidence of BPH observed among the Tsimane of Bolivia.

Paper: See Challenging the Inevitability of Prostate Enlargement: Low Levels of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia Among Tsimane Forager-Horticulturalists by Benjamin C Trumble, Jonathan Stieglitz, Daniel Eid Rodriguez, Edhitt Cortez Linares, Hillard S Kaplan, Michael D Gurven, published in J Gerontol A Biol Sci Med Sci. 2015 Oct;70(10):1262-8.

News report: (2015) More Isn't Always Better — "Study by UCSB anthropologists connects increased diabetes risk and higher levels of testosterone to prostate enlargement".

The Tsimane of Bolivia have low incidence of heart disease too.
