Sweet Potato Chaat (WFPB, Oil-Free)

Sweet potato chaat — 'shakarkandi chaat' — is a popular street food in North India. We can make it so flavorful with fresh herbs, spices, lemon & vinegar. No salt needed.

With Skin! We should strive to eat sweet potatoes with their skins. In The Best Way to Cook Sweet Potatoes (3 mins, 2018), Dr Greger reminds us:

Make sure to keep the skin on, though. The peel of a sweet potato has nearly ten times the antioxidant power as the flesh — an antioxidant activity comparable to that of blueberries, though it really takes a hit when baked, wiping out over two-thirds, whereas microwaving or boiling was comparatively much gentler.

Salt Free! Also, a sweet potato chaat can easily be made salt-free. A simple combination of roasted / steamed sweet potato, with lemon & pepper is so flavorful! No salt needed. Now we can enhance the flavor further with many other spice mixes, fresh herbs (mint, cilantro, …) and vinegars.

All zero-oil Sweet Potato Chaat recipe videos that I have found so far use salt; they alaso remove the skin of sweet potatoes. Please try to retain the skin and experiment with salt-free recipes.
