In 2011, an attempt was made by Dr John McDougall to introduce a bill in California to make sure that doctors undergo 11 hours of nutrition education.
(6 mins, 2011) Nutrition Education Bill in California — Testimonies by Dr McDougall & Dr Forrester

Dr John McDougall and Dr Dan Forrester make these points: (a) several modern chronic diseases are known to be nutrition related: obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and so on, (b) when patients are educated about nutrition, they make changes and experience dramatic changes in health: Dr Forrester mentions the Meals for Health program by Earth Save Foundation, and (c) nutrition education is virtually missing in medical schools. So Drs McDougall and Forrester argue that a bill be introduced by State of California to mandate continuing education in nutrition for doctors for improvement in public health.
