Why do doctors, medical researchers and nutrition researchers find nutrition so confusing? Let's see how editors of prestigeous medical journals explain what's going on.
(NEJM) Dr Marica Angell

Dr Angell is former editor-in-chief of the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM). "It is among the most prestigious peer-reviewed medical journals as well as the oldest continuously published one." — Wikipedia.

In a strongly worded article: Drug Companies & Doctors: A Story of Corruption (2009), Dr Angell wrote:

"It is simply no longer possible to believe much of the clinical research that is published, or to rely on the judgment of trusted physicians or authoritative medical guidelines. I take no pleasure in this conclusion, which I reached slowly and reluctantly over my two decades as an editor of The New England Journal of Medicine."

Book: The Truth About the Drug Companies: How They Deceive Us and What to Do About It (319 pages, 2005).

(Lancet) Dr Richard Horton

In this Lancet publication from 2015, Dr Richard Horton (editor of The Lancet) says:

"The case against science is straightforward: much of the scientific literature, perhaps half, may simply be untrue. Afflicted by studies with small sample sizes, tiny effects, invalid exploratory analyses, and flagrant conflicts of interest, together with an obsession for pursuing fashionable trends of dubious importance, science has taken a turn towards darkness."

A commentary: While their ads are prevalent, drug companies and medical journals will remain uneasy bedfellows (2020).
