In an insightful video below, Dr Klaper explains that the #1 reason for developing peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage causing weakness, numbness and pain in hands and feet) is too much sitting. The 2nd most common reason is diabetes.
Is there hope for those with diabetic neuropathy? Yes!
At offset 11:34, Dr Klaper summarizes a study by Dr Crane (Weimar Institute, California) from 1994 in which 21 patients with painful diabetic neuropathy ("hot burning pain going down their legs") were put on a low fat WFPB diet (no oils; low total fat intake) plus 30-min walk plus Vitamin B-12. Within 2 weeks, 17 out of 21 patients became pain-free! The other 4 had partial improvement.
The study mentioned at offset 11:34 in this video is also described in Dr Greger's video below.

This talk is actually a 7-minute snippet from a longer 54-minute talk: From Table to Able: Combating Disabling Diseases with Food (Aug 2014).
This video focuses on diabetic neuropathy (damage to nerves), which may lead to serious amounts of pain and suffering. About 50% of diabetics develop diabetic neuropathy. Reversal of diabetic neuropathy — something considered impossible — was reported in landmark studies going back to 1950s and 1970s. In fact, reversal was dramatic — in 80% of patients, within a matter of days! What was the intervention? Adoption of a whole food plant-based diet (WFPB).
Dr Greger explains how researchers are trying to explain the mechanism behind reversal of diabetic neuropathy and diabetic retinopathy with WFPB. Is it because the layer of trans fats that accumulates under our skin starts going away? Or is it that blood flow improves; our nerves have blood vessels that can get clogged up, thereby depriving nerves of oxygen. When we create conditions (by adopting WFPB, for example), we facilitate declogging of blood vessels throughout our body, and reduction in trans fat stores in our body. But where do trans fats come into our body from? See Trans Fats.

Dr Rogers explains that all of these conditions are inter-related and influenced by the food we eat.
