What To Eat? See Dr Funk's Favorite 14 — Eat To Beat Breast Cancer Today (PDF). Dr Funk's program is similar to Dr Greger's Daily Dozen except that she has 14 components instead of 12. The additional components are to emphasize foods which are known to protect us specifically against cancer.
A fascinating interview (conducted by Chris Wark) that I enjoyed listening to:
In the first 10 mins of the interview above, Kristi summarizes the factors responsible for 85%-90% of breast cancer. She asks us to visualize rocks, pebbles and sand.
"Most Important factors": diet and nutrition, alcohol, exercise, obesity. The magnitude of these factors is so large that these are like rocks."Factors capable of tipping the scales": stress, hormonal replacement therapy, environmental toxicity. The magnitude of these factors is smaller than the factors listed above, so these are like pebbles and sand.
Personal Story: In the interview above, Kristi Funk mentions that she was actually following a Mediterranean Diet (which allows for meat, fish, dairy and oils) when she developed a strong urge to write a book to share whatever she knew about breast cancer with the masses. She explains, 'it was as if God has asked me to do this!'. So she started spending 15 hours every weekend researching and writing. Throughout, she followed two principles:
Kristi knew that cancer is classified as a 'lifestyle disease', so she had to write about diet and nutrition. Interestingly, as she dug into cancer-related literature to formulate and justify her food guidelines, she discovered that Whole Food Plant-Based (WFPB) guidelines were the best — that prompted her to completely change her own food habits!
