PCRM (Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine) is an organization that advocates Whole Food Plant-Based guidelines.
PCRM was founded in 1985 by Dr Neal Barnard. It has played a pivotal role in defining and evangelizing Whole Food Plant-Based guidelines over the last few decades.
PCRM Power Plate is very simple! Only 4 simple food groups: (1) Whole Grains, (2) Beans, (3) Fruits, and (4) Vegetables, along with Nuts & Seeds, Herbs & Spices consumed in small quantities. To get started, check out PCRM Vegan Kickstart app.
Does PCRM encourage a Low Fat Diet? Yes! Their target fat percentage is only 10% of calories! High fat foods are nuts, seeds, avocados and soy (edamame, soybeans, soy milk, tofu, tempeh, …) — all these foods must be consumed in small, measured quantities.
Did PCRM's four-component Power Plate influence the visual design of USDA's Food Plate in 2011? We don't know for sure, but articles by PCRM suggest that perhaps it was.
