Dr Caldwell Esselstyn (b 1933) is a former heart surgeon from Cleveland Clinic. As of 2020, he's 86 years old and still active. His family regularly makes YouTube videos showcasing WFPB lifestyle and cooking techniques — check out Jane Esselstyn's YouTube Channel (Jane is Dr Esselstyn's daughter).
In his talks, Dr Esselstyn explains that heart disease need not exist and that we can make ourselves heart-attack proof! Those are bold statements which I find inspiring.

Opening lines of The Last Heart Attack (CNN documentary, 2017):
Personally, I find Dr Esselstyn's mind-boggling, considering that Heart disease is the #1 killer of men and women worldwide and heart disease rates are exceptionally high among Indians.

FAQ: Esselstyn FAQ is insightful. Dr Esselstyn's guidelines are stricter than guidelines by other WFPB doctors. His guidelines are optimized for heart health.
This 14-minute TEDxCambridge talk from 2011 crisply explains the causes of heart disease and why heart disease is merely a 'paper tiger' because it is 100% preventible by proper diet and moderate exercise. A good video to watch!
This is a long video (62 mins) from Healthy Lifestyle Expo, 2003. Insightful talk.
Superb talk by Dr Esselstyn. This is an expanded version of his shorter TED Talk from 2011.
An insightful 5-min video. It contains a snippet of Dr Esselstyn's longer talk. In this video, he explains under what circumstances we may expect plaque reversal to high degrees, and under what circumstances reversal may not happen to high degrees (but still, patients benefit dramatically by switching to WFPB).
What did I learn from this video? The big picture: PREVENTION, PREVENTION, PREVENTION! We really need prevent instead of waiting for heart disease to settle down in our body and then decide to take action to reverse it.
An informative video. Dr Esselstyn summarizes the studies he has done with heart patients and the mind-blowing benefits they experienced.
Dr Esselstyn says that if we attempt to practice cardiology in rural China, central Africa, Okinawans or Papua New Guinea islans, we'd better be prepared to sell pencils. Why? Heart disease is rare in these places!
Dr Esselstyn conducted a 20-year study over a small group of 18 patients. The text below has been copied from his website:
Comparison with Ornish Reversal Program: Two broad differences between Dean Ornish's program and Esselstyn's guidelines relate to dairy and stress reduction. Esselstyn does not allow any dairy and he does not emphasize stress reduction, making it optional. According to him, simply changing food habits and ensuring daily exercise is sufficient for reversing heart disease. Both Ornish and Esselstyn emphasizes complete elimination of oils for heart patients.

This article summarizes the experience of 198 participants seriously ill with cardiovascular disease. During 3.7 years of follow up of the 89% adherent to the program, 99.4% avoided further major cardiac events, which is pretty remarkable!
This article was written at the 12-year mark of the 20-year longitudinal study that tracked 18 patients who were initially very sick. The results at the end of 20 years were reported in Dr Esselstyn's book 'Heart Attack Proof (see above).
Personal Narrative: Olympic Reflections 50 Years Later, published in Yale University Alumni Magazine. Dr Esselstyn recounts the final race in 1956 Olympics — he was part of the rowing team that won the gold medal. In the latter half of the article, Dr Esselstyn ruminates on the state of cardiology, heart disease and food.
